New Leadership Roles: Complete Streets, Electrification, Transportation Planning, and Business Development

Sam Schwartz has announced the creation of several new leadership roles expected to build on and expand the firm’s industry-leading offerings in engineering, planning, and design.

Mike Flynn, AICP will be National Director, Transportation Planning. A nationally-recognized leader in urban mobility, with complementary experience in organizational transformation, data analytics, and communications, Mike has devoted the past 20 years to helping communities envision and implement transportation systems that support equity, climate action, economic development, and resilience. As a Principal, he has spearheaded the development of Sam Schwartz’s Strategic Planning practice, working with transportation and transit organizations nationwide to envision and enact change. Mike is active in developing and sharing best practices across the industry through NACTO, TRB, ITE, and APA, and draws on an extensive industry network of experts and resources.

Stacey Meekins, AICP, a Principal with Sam Schwartz, will serve as National Practice Leader, Complete Streets. A sought-after leader in pedestrian and bicyclist safety and mobility, Stacey leverages more than 15 years of experience in engineering and planning to help communities make their transportation systems more equitable and inclusive; she specializes in establishing safe, inviting environments that empower walking and bicycling as integral modes. She has catalyzed the transformation of built environments and supported the enactment of nationally-recognized Complete Streets policies everywhere from small towns and suburbs to cities like Chicago, Phoenix, and Washington, DC. Stacey has also developed trainings and guidance for the Federal Highway Administration, state governments, and national organizations.

Kate Sargent will be National Practice Leader, Electrification. As Oakland Office Leader, Kate has over 15 years of experience in transit planning and operations, emerging mobility, and transportation electrification. She has led transportation electrification master plans and feasibility studies for a number of transit agencies, from Portland and Seattle to Chicago, Indianapolis, and Philadelphia. Kate is integrating company-wide experience with charging station siting, transportation demand management modeling, framework development, and logistics. This will broaden Sam Schwartz’s industry-leading electrification practice, enhancing our efforts helping cities develop comprehensive transportation electrification strategies that meet their sustainability and greenhouse gas reduction goals.

Don Tone, PE will serve as Business Development Manager, NY. In this role, Don will generate leads, build connections, and strengthen relationships to help Sam Schwartz engage new engineering and planning opportunities in the New York market. Drawing on nearly three decades of experience, including six years with Sam Schwartz, Don has a deep understanding of New York City and the surrounding region. His efforts have resulted in numerous public and private assignments for the firm, including high-profile projects such as the NYCDOT Transportation Planning ESA, the rehabilitation of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, and major on-call contracts for MTA, DDC, EDC, OMB and NYSDOT.
