Happy Holidays from Sam Schwartz

Dear Friends,

As 2020 draws to a close, we find ourselves mourning the enormous suffering this year has caused—and focused on the serious challenges ahead. We are grateful, now and always, for the opportunity to do work that has profound implications for human health, safety, and well-being.

This year deepened our understanding of why transportation and design are vital. When most movement stopped, Sam Schwartz leapt into action: expanding pedestrian zones, designing outdoor dining experiences, and supporting transit agencies in their social distancing efforts. Our firm contributed to major studies on pandemic response, from NACTO’s guide to leveraging public space to APTA’s comprehensive analysis of safety on mass transit. We also looked to what comes next, helping Lyft imagine resilient street corridors nationwide and proposing monumental car-free bridges connecting New Yorkers to sustainable transport and one another.

Ending a harrowing year, our society finds itself at a moment of both great risk and enormous opportunity. Sam Schwartz stands ready to shape it in favor of safety, equity, and sustainability in 2021. Thank you for being on this journey with us.

Warmly,

Your Friends at Sam Schwartz

P.S. As our gift to you, please find at the links below a long-standing company tradition: our calendars. For those of you in New York and Chicago, they're a must-have reference for all things traffic and transportation!
