The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) broke ground today on the largest reconstruction effort in the agency’s history. Mayor Lightfoot, Senator Durbin, and other officials attended the launch of the Red and Purple Modernization Project, which will rehabilitate tracks and stations along the Red and Purple lines. The first phase will rebuild the Lawrence, Argyle, Berwyn and Bryn Mawr stations, along with support structures and tracks. It will also involve a new bypass at the junction where Red, Purple and Brown Line trains currently intersect, which will allow for significantly more trains to run on the Red Line. Sam Schwartz is collaborating with CTA to raise awareness & help develop public communications about the project.
