From cabbie to commisioner to DOT consultant.

Samuel I. Schwartz was a New York City cab driver before eventually becoming New York City Traffic Commissioner and Chief Engineer of NYC's Department of Transportation. In the Summer of 1995, he founded The Sam Schwartz Company with a staff of two. Since then, we have grown to a staff of over 130 professional engineers, planners, and designers in offices throughout the country. From cabbie, to commissioner, to DOT client.

Through our technical expertise, creative visioning, and consensus-building, Sam Schwartz strives to balance the needs and improve the quality of life for all users, including drivers, pedestrians, transit riders, and cyclists. In addition to winning numerous awards for our innovative projects and outstanding staff, Sam Schwartz has made Zweig’s Hot Firm List every year since 2008.
