Transit bus on 14th Street busway

The 14th Street Transit & Truck Priority (TTP) Pilot Project was implemented by the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) in October 2019, aiming to improve M14 A/D Select Bus Service operations and enhance safety on this Vision Zero Priority Corridor.

Sam Schwartz created and released periodic monitoring reports about the performance of the TTP Pilot Project. The firm partnered with Traffic Databank for data collection and Public Works Partners for public engagement.

The monitoring plan included tracking the performance of bus activity; vehicle speeds and volumes on area roadways; bicycle and pedestrian volumes; and curbside activity.  Data was collected and gathered from a variety of sources including NYCT, INRIX, NYCDOT, and Citi Bike, amongst others. The team also conducted in-person and online surveys to collect public feedback throughout the project. The results of this feedback were shared in project reports.

The data collected by this effort showed conclusively that the busway was improving mobility for bus riders, cyclists, and pedestrians with minimal impacts to car travel times. As a result, the project was made permanent, and the City is in the process of rolling out similar busways across the five boroughs.
