Soumya Dey leads the firm’s Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) practice. He has three decades of experience in ITS, transportation systems management and operations (TSMO), smart cities, data analytics, safety, traffic engineering, transportation planning, and asset management.

Prior to joining Sam Schwartz, he held several leadership roles at Washington, DC’s District Department of Transportation (DDOT), where he helped manage a mobility system with assets valued at $50 billion, serving 1.25 million daily users. At DDOT, he led the agency’s ITS program at both the strategic and tactical levels; was instrumental in the establishment of an integrated regional system designed to improve safety and mobility through information sharing, planning, and coordination; implemented a real-time parking pricing system pilot that has since become a national model; and helped integrate the city’s Automated Traffic Enforcement into its safety and Vision Zero program.


 

If you were going to retire and travel around the world, where would you go first?

I was born and brought up in India, but never had the opportunity to experience its grandeur. So my trek around the globe would start with a leisurely trip across.
