SSE Shines in New Orleans
The American Planning Association recently held their 2010 National Planning Conference in New Orleans and SSE was well represented in the Big Easy. Sam Schwartz led SSE's contingent which also included Douglas Adams, Mark de la Vergne, Jacob Mason, and Jessica Schmidt.
SSE was on hand to accept the 2010 National Planning Excellence Award for Public Outreach for our work on the Wicker Park/Bucktown (WPB) Master Plan. The award recognizes the team’s innovative and effective community involvement strategies used in the development of the Master Plan. SSE, along with Interface Studio and Civic Economics, assisted WPB in creating a Master Plan to guide the neighborhood's future. SSE was responsible for the transportation portion of the plan and continues to work with WPB as it implements the recommendations.
SSE staff also continue to be a leader in providing solutions for a number of transportation issues facing our nation's communities. Sam Schwartz and Jessica Schmidt participated in a panel on Revisiting Pedestrian Malls. Sam spoke on the history of pedestrian space in New York City and discussed a number of the new treatments that have recently been implemented. Douglas Adams led a session on Rethinking Urban Freeways and Jacob Mason hosted a panel on the Rapid Rise in U.S. Biking.
