2009

  • President Obama Inauguration Logistics Planning

    SSE assists District Department of Transportation with logistics planning for President Obama's inauguration.

  • New office is opened in Tampa, Florida. Civil Design division is created.

  • SSE wins over a dozen awards for its work.

2008

  • New offices open in Chicago, IL and Washington, D.C. Safety and Research division is created.

  • SSE wins many awards and is named on several prestigious lists.

  • IKEA Brooklyn

    New York City's first IKEA store opens in Red Hook, Brooklyn. SSE's traffic impact study sets the stage for a successful traffic management plan that avoids major traffic jams, even during the first week of store opening.

  • World Trade Center Site Transportation Logistics

    SSE assists the Port Authority of NY & NJ's with logistical planning support for the World Trade Center site.

2007

  • New York City Bus Rapid Transit

    SSE leads design process with New York City Department of Transportation and New York City Transit to identify City-wide Bus Rapid Transit routes.

  • SSE wins several awards for its excellent work.

2006

  • SSE wins Rehabilitation of the Brooklyn Queens Expressway Triple Cantilever project.

  • Shinnecock Casino Traffic Study

    SSE conducts intensive traffic study for proposed Shinnecock Casino project in Southampton, New York.

  • SSE wins state and national and awards.

  • Gansevoort Market Urban Design Plan

    Community activists in Manhattan's Gansevoort Market area seek the help of SSE to conduct a streetscape and neighborhood improvement study.

2005

  • SSE opens Sam Schwartz of Canada, Ltd. with an office in the Windsor-Detroit area.

  • The Mayor of New York City proclaims official "Sam Schwartz PLLC Day" at SSE’s 10th anniversary party.

  • SSE travels to Korea to discuss border crossing challenges.

  • NYCT Bus On-Call Services Project

    Provided traffic engineering support services to improve bus operations and traffic flow. Identified improvements to street geometry, parking/traffic regulations, signal timing, signage and roadway markings.

  • Port Authority of NY & NJ On-Call Services Project

    Provided on-call construction permitting services for all Port Authority facilities, including bridge and tunnel crossings, airports and roadways for 49 complex and routine projects throughout New York City and New Jersey. Exceptional work lead to renewed contract for 2004-2007.

  • Windsor GreenLinks

    Working for the City of Windsor in Canada, developed plans for new crossing over the Detroit River to meet the needs of international trade and the cities and counties along river.

2004

  • SSE's Manhattan Bridge & Belt Parkway Bridge project is featured in Roads to Bridges Top 10 Bridges.

  • SSE wins many awards for its innovative work.

  • World Trade Center (WTC) Revitalization Project

    Analyzed the eight design schemes for the WTC site. Assessed traffic and pedestrian circulation components of each design.Evaluated pedestrian movements for the selected WTC memorial site design.

  • Village of Lawrence

    Provided on-call traffic engineering services, including parking studies, pedestrian safety analyses and traffic control recommendations for this Long Island community.

2003

  • SSE serves on transportation arm of New York City Mayor's Blackout Taskforce.

  • Innovative Education: SSE is member of Bronx Charter School for the Arts Design Charette Team.

  • SSE named Zweig-White Hottest 100 Firms.

  • Canal Street Park Project

    Mediated design dispute between New York State Department of Transportation and Tribeca community groups. Reconfigured adjacent intersection by decreasing the number of traffic lanes, improving crossing conditions for pedestrians, and restoring an enlarged replica of the park to its original site.

  • Newark Airport Project

    Produced user-friendly maps for Newark Airport.Maps were printed as brochures and shown in web format to help guide patrons through the airport during all phases of construction.

  • Bristol-Myers Squibb Project

    Assisted in preparation of Traffic Management Plan for BMS's Hopewell facility.Developed a comprehensive GIS database and assisted in development, testing and administration of detailed employee commuter surveys.

2002

  • SSE's New York office is expanded to accommodate for growth.

  • 55 Water Street Project receives Honorable Mention from Metropolis Magazine.

  • Glen Oaks Project

    Developed the access plan for three proposed New York City schools on a 20-acre campus adjacent to the Grand Central Parkway. Also provided community outreach, design development and construction documents for the site plan.

2001

  • SSE opens new office in Newark, NJ.

  • AirTrain Project

    Facilitated interagency coordination, obtained permits, developed MPT plans, designed landscape mitigation plans, and implemented community outreach programs for the Port Authority of NY & NJ during construction of the JFK Airport AirTrain.

1997

  • SSE moves to Broadway and Houston.

  • Edison Parking becomes SSE's first paying client.

  • Chelsea Piers Project

    Modified access design for Route 9A and Chelsea Piers service road, as well as bike and pedestrian walk ways. Conducted comprehensive community outreach program.

1995

  • The Sam Schwartz Company is founded. Office located at Fourth Street and Lafayette in Manhattan.

  • Battery Park City On-Call Project

    Provided traffic engineering services for the Battery Park City Authority, including streetscape design, pedestrian engineering and emergency response services. Helped to create an additional 3/4 acre of parkland.
